Route 66

06/02
Headed down Route 66 through Illinois to Missouri on our new journey. Of course we had to stop at Route 66 tourist places. Springfield, Illinois was a perfect place to start. There is an old gas station, Lincoln's home and tombstone, Cozy's Drive In, and a Frank Lloyd Wright house.
To start off the day we headed to Shea's Gas Station which is the oldest gas station on Route 66. Unfortunately, the museum was closed but you could just see all the old memorabilia in the yard, it would have been fun to go through all of it! Then we drove around looking at Lincoln's house, neighborhood, and tombstone. We were hungry at that point and really wanted to try out Cozy's Drive In. This restaurant was the birthplace of the corn dog... Unfortunately, they are closed on Sundays - go figure. The last attraction that caught our eye in Springfield was the Frank Lloyd Wright house. He was an amazing architect, very ahead of his time and his work is amazing! At that point in the day we felt it was time to move on in our journey.
We've noticed that Route 66 is very famous for the Worlds Largest things. Too make any road trip fun, you have to check out these neat attractions. We saw the worlds larges Catsup bottle, the worlds largest rocking chair and stopped at a antique sore that has huge creations in the front yard, like a three wheeled bike and a pink elephant. They are cheesy little tourist attractions but worth it for road trip memories.
Our last stop for the day was the Arch. As we crossed into Missouri all you could see was the Arch. It's massive. We followed our gps into the city and it lead us right to a blocked off road... Clearly all the rain they have been having has made the river flood right onto the streets. Fortunately we found a side street parking spot and walked our way to the Arch.
After being amazed by what humans can create, we called it a night in Springfield, Missouri.

Xoxo

Worlds Biggest Catsup bottle. Looks like the perfect size to me....

There is a street below that water.... Flooding much? The GPS wanted us to go the route, clearly we turned around.
