OBX

04/04
Woke up from a peaceful rest at a Walmart in Chesapeake, VA and with rain in the forecast we decided it was time to move on and utilize this sunny day by going towards the ocean. Our two hour journey landed us at a sunny, but very breezy and chilly Outer Banks, NC. We ventured down through Nags Head towards the famous Rodanthe, NC (love Nicholas Sparks) and made a couple of pit stops at Bodie Island Lighthouse, Nags Head and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, Hatteras Island (lots of cute turtles <3). The weather could have been warmer, but it was an overall great experience!
Thankfully our day was nice because our afternoon was interesting.... Let me tell you, the detour routes are not like the ones we have back home. The one we had to take took us an extra 60 miles (at least) and an hour out of our way. Not planning for this scenic tour we barely coasted into the only gas station on our detour at the very end of our travels before getting back on track. Thankfully we made it or Mike would be getting some good exercise!
All in all, looking back on it now, the detour was thrilling and worth it! Everyone needs a little adventure in their lives and we sure got it then.
Tomorrow will definitely be our relaxing day.

A tip for anyone traveling: If you need to shower call a campground and they might let you just pay to use their hot water showers. That's what we did and even though the place was sketchy (shower curtain didn't cover the area, plywood wall was falling down so anyone could see into the shower) it was well worth getting clean and we will do it again I'm sure. :)
